BASMACHI
The Basmachi Movement was one of the greatest symbols of resistance against Soviet rule in Central Asia, lasting from the 1910s to the 1930s. Formed in response to Russian imperialism and later Bolshevik policies, it sought to defend local traditions and autonomy. Using guerrilla tactics, Basmachi fighters clashed with Soviet forces, aiming to expel them from Turkestan and beyond. For nearly two decades, the movement disrupted Soviet control, but internal divisions and the Red Army’s brutal campaigns led to its decline.
At the Basmachi Movement Joint Crisis Committee, delegates shall take on the roles of key figures from both the Basmachi resistance and the Soviet government. While the Basmachi faction shall strategize to expand the uprising and secure independence, the Soviet side shall work to suppress the rebellion and restore control over Central Asia. Through shifting alliances, military decisions, and political maneuvering, the committee will determine whether history repeats itself or takes a new course.
